Becky Says No To Malaria

By 19th November 2013Diary, Official News

In the coming weeks Becky and her fellow celebrity campmates will be intensely competing to be crowned King or Queen of the Jungle in the 2013 series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! But the celebrities are united from the outset by their support for the show’s beneficiary charity Malaria No More UK: www.malarianomore.org.uk/im-a-celebrity

15p from every phone vote is donated to Malaria No More UK’s vital work to end deaths from malaria, including helping to test for and treat the disease in children. Children are disproportionately affected – tragically, a boy or girl dies from malaria every single minute, that’s the equivalent of three UK primary schools being wiped out every day. Every life lost is needless as malaria is easy to prevent and cure. It costs less than a cup of tea to provide lifesaving treatment to a child.

Just before entering the jungle, Becky shared why she backs this inspiring cause saying “I went out to Zambia after the Olympics to do a charity bike ride. Zambia is a such a beautiful country but the whole population is at risk of malaria. I took my anti-malarials because I knew how dangerous it can be if you don’t. Whenever we could, we slept under a mosquito net but not everyone has the option. I saw firsthand the devastating effects of malaria. I saw people getting really ill, it’s shocking. Millions of people suffer every single day so I am delighted to be able to help save lives by being in the jungle”.

If you’d like to join Becky and help us win the fight against malaria, please visit Malaria No More UK’s website www.malarianomore.org.uk/im-a-celebrity and see how you can get involved. Together we can end deaths from malaria in our lifetime.
