800m Freestyle to remain in 2012 Olympic Programme

Following the news from the IOC meeting in Lausanne yesterday, it is great to hear that the swimming programme will not be changed for 2012, keeping the 800m Freestyle for women in the programme.

Being a third of the way through the current cycle it was a massive relief that they won't switch the 800m for the 1500m in London, I believe it would've been unfair to ask all those currently training for the 800m event to modify their training programmes during an Olympic cycle.

I've always maintained what a great event it is, with Olympic history going back to 1968. If I qualify for Team GB in the 800m in 2012 I will be proud to defend my title in London.
