BBC Sports Personality of the Year
20 December, 2008
I've been a fan of BBC Sports Personality of the Year ever since
I can remember, so it was great to be invited and being there in
person and watching the show unfold was fantastic.
It was a real honour to be named amongst the final 10 for the
main award - just to be mentioned in the same breath as the most
successful sportsmen and women of the year was brilliant. I really
wanted to win, but the competition was so stiff that to be voted
3rd by the British public was a great honour and something I'll
always be proud of. It's always very special when the public
appreciate what you have achieved and it was a great moment to be
standing on the main stage at the end of the show alongside Chris
Hoy and Lewis Hamilton with my trophy. I was also thrilled
that Chris came first - not only did he massively deserve it but
for an Olympian to be recognised was something the whole of Team GB
could be proud of.
All my family came with me, which just made the whole thing even
better. They all really enjoyed the experience, especially Chloe,
my eldest sister, who had a great time at the after show party
chasing round the stars getting autographs!
