Less than 100 days to go!
3 May, 2012
One of the major hurdles in the run up to the Games is done and
dusted and I don't mind admitting it's a relief! The small matter
of qualifying!
I've been saying for the last three and a half years that I'm
not taking anything for granted and the main goal is to qualify. So
I'm very pleased that the British Gas Championships, which doubled
as Olympic trials, went so well. Having qualified for the 400m and
800m Freestyle events I can now look forward to the main event.
All I can say is that the Aquatics Centre - where the trials
happened and the Olympic swimming will take place - is
unbelievable. It not only looks great, but it's brilliant for the
spectators and swimmers alike. The atmosphere at trials was really
good, but I imagine it will be at another level during the Games
themselves. They will be using the full capacity of the venue
and the thought of swimming in front of a British crowd at the
London Olympics is mind blowing. Truly a once in a lifetime
event!
But...there's still a few months to go. I'm already back in
heavy training, which is as tough as ever, but I'm so motivated to
perform that I don't even give it a second thought. There's no room
for complacency after all the hard work I've put in for the last
three and a half years - I'll be leaving nothing to chance.
I've got an overseas training camp in early May and a couple of
competitions prior to the Games. In July there's a holding camp for
the whole of the swimming team, before we arrive at the Olympic
Village.
Bring it on!
