Off to Oz
4 November, 2010
Just when I think the year can't get any
better…! I fly out to Australia on Thursday for some warm
weather training with my teammate (and flat-mate) Katherine Wyld
for six weeks.
We'll be staying in Brisbane and training with
St Peter's, which is the team that Aussie legend Steph Rice swims
for. Katherine and I are going to be staying in a two-bed apartment
in the city together. The idea behind it is simple really, keeping
things interesting, a change of scenery and some new faces - not to
mention a bit of sun when the weather back home is pretty grim.
It's important not to get stale, especially at
the end of a long season, and the trip will be perfect for that.
I'll train as hard as ever for five weeks, and then in the sixth
week there is the local Brisbane Championships that I'll be
competing in. Should be a great experience.
Of course, when I'm not in the pool I'm really
keen to see some sights and do a bit of the touristy stuff! I've
been to Melbourne before, but never to Queensland. And I'm really
keen to visit the Whitsunday Islands, they're meant to be
stunning.
I haven't actually been to Sydney before
either, but we've organized some sessions with Eamon Sullivan's
team in Sydney, so I'll get to spend a few days there too. I'm
desperate to do the Harbour Bridge walk if I get the chance.
I get back to England on December
23rd - right in time for Christmas with my family, so
I'll make sure I fit in some time for Christmas shopping when I'm
Down Under!
