I’m very proud of what I have achieved so far, but my journey is not finished yet. My vision is that every child in Britain will be able to swim 25 metres by the time they leave primary school. Being able to swim is such a wonderful life skill, and I see this as my greatest challenge in swimming.
Despite my retirement, my commitment to swimming is as strong as it ever was. I’m delighted that, after nearly three years of planning, my SwimStars programme is now up and running, and I look forward to rolling it out in further sites across the UK.
The teachers involved in the programme are top class, and have further enhanced their skills and experience by completing in-depth training modules that immerse them in my key values of respect, friendship, courage and persistence. The programme gives kids the opportunity to learn to swim in a fun and safe environment.
